A Better Life

Now, I have only had one dog in my life, an orphan that my family adopted from the streets when I was 10 years old. My energy prefers the company of cats given the choice. My friend Tania however loves dogs, she has been a long-time supporter and volunteer of @safeperth.  Safe Perth is a not-for-profit organization saving Perth animals from euthanasia. Tania is a volunteer foster carer, she has housed many dogs over her lifetime.

In 2013, I photographed one of these dogs, Cordi and Tania’s daughter Darcy pictured below.

Darcy and Cordi | Alan McDonald-2013

The photo along with two other portrait images won a Portrait Photographic Award Category in 2013.

Shortly after this photo was taken, Cordi found new owners, Courtney and Terry, and with Cordi in mind, they decided to relocate to Canada. Cordi was able to accompany them everywhere, including hotels, camping trips, hikes, and skiing adventures, which was the lifestyle they wanted for him. Terry is also a wildlife photographer, so Cordi spent many hours in the car while they photographed bears, elk, moose, and other wildlife.@BiltonCoPhotography.

Canada looked like the perfect place for such a dog.

Sadly Cordi passed away in August 2024.

It must be pretty rewarding knowing that you contributed to changing the trajectory of such lives. I’m guessing this is one of many adventures of a dog fostered through Safe Perth, who lived a well-loved life.
